ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM

In much of my Abstract Expressionist work I share with composers of music a developed capacity to evoke content by association.  I use my ability to engage the eye in a process that is akin to listening because it involves attention to consecutive passages, an interest in rhythmic structures that I articulate spatially, and the use of color to achieve modulations that can be subtly chromatic or dramatically contrasted. I create melodic surfaces rendered vital by means of hidden formal structures. Within each I create new worlds to be explored.

Throughout my years of working in my abstract modality 'the series' format has been important for continuity and enriched innovation within my art.  I chose this pointilist abstract style to enphasize tonal harmonies and a full range of color not possible with traditional mixed paint.  Each mark, dot, gestoral line, and vibrant hue takes on a life of its own.  These no doubt are shaped by a journey I took to the heart of Aboriginal Australia with my wife and Grandfather to share spiritual concepts with their Shamen.
